About

Growing up in the country alongside a working farm, I have a great appreciation for the labour and love that goes into what ends up on our plate.  This understanding beautifully merges with what I do now: help people change the way they think and feel about food and their body.

I started my training in 2006, completing a BSc in Psychology, an MA in Addiction studies, an MSc in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and I am currently a PhD candidate in Psychoanalysis. I am fascinated by how our mind works and have been helping people change their lives and most importantly, their relationships with themselves for over ten years.

I suppose the Artful Eating journey began when I first set up my private psychotherapy practice in 2010. I was struck by the fact that almost everyone who came to see me, at some point would inevitably begin talking about a dissatisfaction with their body and their relationship with food. Old, young, little, large, each client seemed to have their own unique struggle with their image.

Fascinated and sad at the same time, I felt compelled to do something about it. That is how the seeds of Artful eating began, and over the past three years I developed the Artful Eating approach. In that time I have helped so many wonderful people feel freedom around food and their body. Weight loss had been a joyous consequence!

The concept grew from my therapy room to an online course, a bespoke coaching program and now a book, to which I am currently putting the finishing touches. It will be out later this year and I cannot wait to share it with you!

Curious to know more about Artful Eating?

Perhaps you enjoy reading and following the numerous food bloggers and healthy eating advocates out there today. They are wonderful resources,  yet with all the advice, recipes and weight loss strategies, our struggle remains. This is because the focus is on the symptom, not the cause.

Unfortunately no amount of dieting or new nutrition information can make you love your body or enjoy food. It all comes down to your mind. The Artful Eating approach helps address the cause of your frustration by dealing with weight and body image issues from a psychological perspective. Its such a liberating approach, which teaches you how to rediscover the magic of eating for pleasure and feel at ease in your body, physically and mentally.  I’ve taken everything I’ve learned from over 10 years of formal studies, within the fields of psychology and psychotherapy, and my experience as a weight loss therapist, to create an approach that results in feeling freedom with food and your thoughts. Weight loss is a joyous consequence. It’s a holistic guide to lasting body confidence that focuses on your thoughts, beliefs, behaviours, lifestyle and actions.

Unlike other theories and practices out there which tell you to eliminate carbohydrate, cut out sugar, or eat within a certain amount of ‘points’, Artful Eating is based on sound psychological principles - which means, it’s different to anything you’ve known before, and it actually works, because it gets to the root cause of the problem, not just the surface symptom. But I’m bound to say that, so don’t just take my word for it. Here’s what my clients have had to say about the transformations they’ve experienced through working with me...

"Before I started with Artful eating, I was always tired and worn out. I was always trying to ‘eat healthily’ but I wasn’t enjoying it. For me Artful Eating was never about losing a lot of weight, but I wanted to feel in shape again and get my energy back. I wanted to achieve a balance in my life and feel comfortable around food. Artful Eating has taught me how to enjoy nice and healthy food. After this course I feel amazing from the inside and out. Since doing the course I feel energised and healthy. I am happy about the way I look and feel. I now have the body that I deserve, but in a healthy way. Artful Eating has impacted my life in a big way. I have a really busy job, but also a busy social life. I found it very difficult to find the right balance. I have to admit, I was a bit sceptical when I first joined Artful Eating. Karina proved me wrong by really helping me, by giving me the right tools and knowledge to maintain this healthy lifestyle. I have developed a healthy lifestyle and now have a positive attitude towards my body. I am super excited about Artful Eating and can recommend it to anyone who wants to get back in shape and feel confident again!" Vivian - Amsterdam, Holland

"Before joining Artful Eating, I'd moved country and started a new full time job and found that my eating habits were all over the place. I wasn't feeling very motivated by healthy eating and exercise and was finding myself feeling sluggish and indulging in heavier, processed based meals and snacks and eating on the go a lot. I now know it's really is all in the mind!! Once I went through the lessons, it all made complete sense. I’ve always focused on calories and exercise but I never considered the psychological aspects of my relationship with food and my body. I think the biggest thing for me was learning to listen to my body and to not always feel like I have to finish my plate. I feel so motivated, something has really shifted in my mindset and I know I will not go back to my old ways of thinking and eating. I know I can always go back to the lessons, or listen to the Cognitive Hypnosis Audios, which I absolutely love, whenever I feel like it." Lorna - Dublin, Ireland

My aim is to help you overcome your weight struggle so that you never have to feel controlled around food again. You can feel freedom around food. You can eat what you want and have a body you enjoy.
